Our inventory is limited so we recommend you reserve your chair or walker as far in advance as possible to be sure there is one available during your stay. Also, please review our cancellation policy incase your trip is cancelled.
May through October are our busy months with June and July being our busiest months. The Debug Beach Wheelchair and the Motorized Beach Wheelchairs are the most rented products.
If the product you wanted is unavailable then please look at one of our other products as they may meet your needs. Otherwise, please contact us and tell us your dates and which product you were hoping to rent so that if there is a cancellation we can put you on the list for a call back.
Note: Since check in times are usually mid to late afternoon, we suggest that you start the rental period the day AFTER you get in town, this way you get a full days use. If you make a last minute online reservation in the morning and want the chair/walker delivered the same morning we will do our best to get it to you as soon as possible.
For reservations cancelled more than 7 days prior to the first day of your reservation we will refund the total cost minus the credit card transaction fee. If your reservation is canceled any time after this, you will be charged the credit card fee plus a cancellation fee of 50% of the rental fee for the reservation.
If the chair or walker has an issue and we can not repair or replace the item then we will provide a refund for the remaining days in the rental period.

When you rent a house or stay at a hotel on the beach you are responsible for ensuring you have access from that location to get the chair/walker to the beach. If you are unsure about your beach access point use Google maps to view your house/hotel to determine what the access looks like (ex: wooden board walk, does it have stairs). Still unsure? Give us a call so we can help determine what the access point looks like.
Most beach access points in our area can be found by clicking the “Which Beach Access Points can I use…” topic at the top of the FAQ page. If you determine you are not near an access point, please give us a call to discuss. Some of our chairs can be disassembled and transported by car, van, or truck, and reassembled once you get to the beach access. Please review all of our products to see which ones can be disassembled. When making your reservation let us know that you will be transporting the chair and we will provide instructions on how to disassemble and reassemble the chairs.
Keep in mind by disassembling/assembling the chair you are responsible for any missing or broken parts and any injury to the operator and rider from improper assembly.
We do require a damage deposit of $150 which is applied at checkout to cover any damage that occurred to the beach wheelchair/walker during your rental period. Once we have picked up the chair/walker and confirm there is no damage we will issue an immediate refund but it may take your bank 5 to 10 days to post the funds back to your account.
We will supply a cable lock to secure the chair/walker to a permanent object such as a building support post. You are responsible for securing the chair/walker to prevent damage or theft.
If there is a problem with your chair please call us as soon as possible and we will attempt to fix the issue. If we are unable to repair the chair or walker we will provide a replacement if one is available. If not, we will refund the money for the unused days.
Yes, to review the Contract and Release before signing you can review it by clicking the link at the top of our website. You have to sign the form on the Thank You page or you can click the ‘Rental Contract’ link when you receive the email titled Payment Received or in the Reservation Start Reminder email.

There are a couple of considerations around this one. One major consideration is that the beach wheelchair/walker may not fit through the doors. The other consideration is that the chairs and walkers are not designed for extended trips on hard surfaces such as roads and sidewalks because it wears the tires down and debris may cause a flat tire. We encourage you to limit the use of the chair to the beach. You are responsible for any damage to the tires due to punctures from objects on the sidewalks and roads.
If you find that you need a wheelchair or walker to get around town please consider renting our Drive Medical Lightweight ‘regular’ wheelchair or the Medline Walker.
We recommend the chair or walker not be used during inclement weather, if you rented one of our Floating Beach Wheelchairs we highly recommend you do not take into the water. The weather in our area can change daily, with that being said we do not give refunds for bad weather days.
In the event of a “named storm” predicted to impact our area, we reserve the right to pickup our wheelchair/walker and equipment at anytime during your rental period. We will contact you to arrange a pickup time, and refund you for any unused days.
The term “named storm” means any organized weather system with a defined surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of not less than 39 miles per hour which the National Hurricane Center of the United States National Weather Service names as a tropical storm or a hurricane.
Yes but we do not give refunds for early returns. Please give us a call so we can arrange pickup.
Yes, they do. Here are capacities for each type of chair and walker we rent:
-Debug Beach Wheelchair: 300 lbs
-Debug EZ Roller Floating Wheelchair: 300 lbs
-Debug Aluminum Beach Rollator Walker: 300 lbs
-MobiChair Floating Beach Wheelchair: 300 lbs
-Beach Cruiser Motorized Wheelchair: 285 lbs
-Regular Beach Walker: 350 lbs
-Drive Medical regular wheelchair: 350 lbs
Note: We suggest the person pushing the beach wheelchair weighs more than the person in the wheelchair.
If you are coming to the beach and do not have someone to assist you with our manual push beach wheelchair then this motorized wheelchair is the solution for you.
We will only rent the motorized wheelchair to homes and hotels with direct beach access or within 1 block of the beach access points. This avoids damage to the tires on the motorized wheelchair. The renter is responsible for ensuring they are able to safely get the wheelchair from their location to the beach without damage or injury. This chair will most likely not fit through a doorway of the house or hotel.
Usage and safety:
Always maintain control of the Beach Cruiser Motorized Wheelchair while in use.
To ensure safety and prevent injury, the user must always wear the seatbelt while using the motorized wheelchair.
The motorized wheelchair is not to be used in the water or on wet sand.
The motorized wheelchair should only be used on dry level ground. Do not drive on inclines or declines at angles otherwise the chair may rollover.
The motorized wheelchair should not be used during inclement weather, and any other poor conditions.
If caught in the rain cover the joystick with the supplied plastic bag, and get the chair back to a covered area as soon as possible to prevent damage.
When not in use be sure to plug in the charger and cover the motorized wheelchair with the supplied cover.
Do not use the components of the motorized beach wheelchair for any purpose other than what is intended.
Do not have more than one person using the motorized beach wheelchair.
The daily life of the batteries is determined by the weight of the rider and the terrain in which the chair is being operated. Under “normal” conditions, you should experience up to 6-8 hours of operation.
The Special Tomato Out & About Seat is ready to go when you are!
When you’re out and about, and a child in your group needs extra support, it’s not always easy to be inclusive when it comes to seating arrangements. In a restaurant and even at the kitchen table, children who require postural support to sit for any length of time probably can’t sit where everyone else is sitting. Sometimes, it even limits their ability to participate.
Special Tomato has created the Out & About Seat (OAS) that provides comfortable upper body support using a padded, adjustable 8-Point Harness System and height adjustable Headrest. It will change where your family member can take a seat and remain comfortably seated while out with family and friends. The Special Tomato OAS can be attached to most standard, stable chairs that have a minimum seat back height of 14”. Once the child is properly seated, the 3-Point Pelvic Harness and 5-Point Chest Harness help to maintain a stable well-aligned position of the pelvis and trunk. Slots are available at 5 different heights on the base fabric back for the threading of shoulder straps. This ensures proper angle of pull and accommodates for growth of the child. The adjustable height headrest promotes a midline position of the head. When a child is properly supported in a well-aligned upright sitting position, energy that would have gone to squirming to get comfortable or just to maintain a sitting position can now go to attending to and participating in the experience they can be included in.
The Out & About Seat (OAS) can also be used to provide additional postural support to strollers, trolleys, pushchairs and some ADA Compliant swings provided that all OAS attachment straps can be securely tightened to the frame of the seat.
The lightweight OAS is easily folded (even with optional seat and back liners) and is equipped with backpack straps to allow for hands free transport! A perfect portable package for families on the go!
Yes, we do offer a Special Tomato Out and About chair insert free of charge, for children that need extra support while seated. If you need the seat please ask us if it is available.
Yes, we have also recently added a few portable ramps for our customers to use while staying at rental houses. All we ask is that once you arrive at your rental house is that you determine which ramp you need. Call us and let us know if you need the ramp that covers the 1 to 2 inch thresholds, the ramp that can cover a 2 to 6 inch threshold or the 38″ x 8′ ramps that can hep get over stairs that are only a few steps high. We only have one of the 1 to 2 inch ramp, two of the 2 to 6 inch ramps, and one of the 38″ x 8′ ramps. These are free of charge.
